Joining its ranks as the 34th local-language edition National Geographic Georgia is sponsored by the telecommunications company Silknet and led by Editor-in-Chief Levan Butkhuzi.
A magazine launch event was held at the National Museum of Georgia on the 22nd of September this year. The launch was attended by Mr. Terry Adamson, Executive Vice President of the National Geographic Society, members of the Washington editorial team and National Geographic photographers. Speeches were delivered by Mr. Richard Norland and Mr. Carlos Asfora, the US and Brazilian ambassadors respectively, as well as by George Ramishvili, Head of the Board of Silk Road Group, Mr. David Lordkipanidze, Head of the National Museum of Georgia, and members of National Geographic editorial team.
The September 2012 launch followed the official signing of the licensing agreement in May between Terry Adamson and George Ramishvili at the National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington, D.C.
Five thousand copies of the very first Georgian edition went into circulation this fall following the launch event. The October issue can now be found at every newsstand in the capital of Georgia, as well as in the regions. A subscription to the Georgian edition is available via the National Geographic Georgia website www.nationalgeographic.ge.
The prominent telecommunications company Silknet, which is the main partner of National Geographic Georgia, offers to its subscribers a special discount price and a user-friendly subscription tool through the IPTV menu.
With the top-of-the-line photography and journalism for which the brand is known, the Georgian edition of National Geographic Magazine makes an array of topics accessible to a wide-ranging audience unrestricted by age. National Geographic in Georgia will undoubtedly promote the development of high-class photography and journalism throughout the country and contribute greatly to Georgian society on an educational level as well.
